A 25 year old man was Thursday morning arrested by police officers at Malaba border when he was trying to cross to Uganda in possession of two Angola AP shirts, 12 civilian t-shirts, 11 trousers, five skirts, one screw, a radio and a master key.
Simon Mkonyere a resident of Chwele in Bungoma county with a suspicious character was seen carrying a big briefcase hurriedly trying to cross the border before he was stopped by police officers.
AP sergeant Robinson Butasi arrested the man and took him to the police station after the suspect had failed to give a justifiable reason on what he was carrying .Butasi also said that he suspected him to be a thief beyond no reasonable doubt.
Confirming the incident, Teso OCPD Elphas Korir said that the suspect is now helping the police officers with relevant information to have the culprits colluding with him brought on book. Korir also said that Mkonyere will be arraigned in court once the investigations are done.
The OCPD has appealed to people whose houses were broken into or residents with missing property to visit the police station to help identify their property.
The police boss has further ordered police officers patrolling the border to remain vigilant on people with suspicious character crossing the border points to help curb increased theft spades in Teso.
