Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi addressing the press in Mombasa bnext to him is Suleiman Shabal vying for governor in Mombasa County.

The United Democratic Forum Party –UDFP is set to sponsor a motion in parliament next week that is aimed at leading to the formation of a parliamentary select committee that will meet key stakeholders of the Mombasa Republican Council-MRC in what it termed, “find a lasting solution that seeks to offer justice to the disaffected.”

The Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi in a statement issued in Mombasa Saturday, he said, they have been inspired by the challenges the region faces and it was only prudent if their issues were handled and solved amicably.

“Whereas everybody has been saying that the challenge of MRC needs attention, nobody has broken the impasse between national leaders and the leaders of this group.”

Adding that, “we have decided to sponsor a motion when the House meets on Tuesday, setting up a parliamentary select committee to meet all key players and find a lasting solution that seeks to offer justice to the disaffected and nurtures the integrity of our great country as a united nation.”

Last weekend, the Assistant minister in the ministry of State for Immigration and Registration of Persons Mr. Francis Baya while in Lugari district, he asked the government to seek dialogue with members of the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) in order to avert a possible national conflict at the coast of Kenya.

Mr. Baya asked the government to stop ignoring the secession threats issued by MRC and instead address itself to some of the sensitive issues raised by coastal residents.

However, during his first State of the Nation address, President Kibaki he had vehemently said Kenya was a unitary State and called off any attempts for secession.

“Kenya remains a Unitary State.  Kenya is one Nation and any attempts or calls for secession should be rejected and shall not be tolerated.  Specifically, the Coast Region has been part of, is part of and will remain part of the Republic of Kenya.”

Mudavadi further called for clear legislation and guidelines on how resources would be shared equitably among counties to avert any tensions.

“We need urgently to develop clear and equitable methods of sharing to avoid conflict and abuse,” said Mudavadi.

He added that, the party, “Will accelerate the development of appropriate legislation including the strengthening of the Minerals Bill currently before The House.”

Subsequently, the Mudavadi will lead his new found party tomorrow Sunday at Tononoka Grounds which will mark his second major nationwide rally after his first which was held at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

Similarly, the Orange Democratic Movement party will be holding another parallel rally at Kisauni same day.

I will fight corruption and expand the economy- Kalonzo

Elsewhere, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has told Kenyans living in the United States that he will fight corruption and expand the economy if elected president.

Addressing Kenyans in Boston, Mr Musyoka said the next government will tap into those in the Diaspora to help grow the economy through remittances currently topping 1 billion USD (Sh84 billion).

"You work hard to remit billions of shillings home, it is important now that the next government which I hope to lead will tap your ideas, creativity and innovation to propel the country forward”, Mr Musyoka told hundreds of Kenyans gathered at the Boston Marriott Hotel at the start of his tour that will also take him to Texas, Atlanta, Minneapolis and Washington DC.

The VP praised Kenyans abroad saying they have been at the forefront in the agitation for more civil liberties in the country, which have now been realized through the enactment of a new Constitution.

“We know and acknowledge our past – the good and the bad. We seek leadership so as to correct mistakes of the past and build on the successes," he said.

The VP told the Kenyans that key institutions, critical to the implementation of the Constitution have been established, paving the way for entrenchment of the new dispensation.

He said for economic prosperity to take root and in order for the country to take advantage of the benefits of regional integration, peace and tranquillity must prevail in East and horn of Africa region.

"We are therefore concerned at what is happening between North and South Sudan and urge them to give peace a chance in order to safeguard the comprehensive peace agreement, (CPA)," he said.

Mr Musyoka is accompanied by Maragua MP Elias Mbau, Kamukunji's Yusuf Hassan and Philip Kaloki (Kibwezi).

The VP was also accompanied by Kenya’s Ambassador to the US Elkana Odembo.
