Heads of schools in Bungoma South District have been urged to remain alert and ensure pupils are not injured incase roofs of classrooms are blown off by heavy winds this season when heavy rains is being experienced in the region.

The KNUT Secretary General in Bungoma South district Kenneth Nganga disclosed that four classrooms of Nalutiri Primary school were blown off owing to heavy rains accompanied by strong winds.

Nganga said there is need for teachers to remain vigilant to ensure pupils are not injured saying during the Nalutiri incident pupils escaped without injuries as the roofs were blown 20 meters away from the buildings.

He has appealed to the government and other well-wishers to assist the school to put up new classrooms.

He said they have already engaged the Kanduyi Constituency Development Fund Committee, Kenya Red Cross Bungoma County branch and the Bungoma South education office of possible ways to assist the school facelift its infrastructure.

Nganda noted that pupils are now sharing classrooms, and that the situation could worsen this time when heavy rains are being experienced in the region if at all necessary urgent measures will not be taken to assist the school during this time of need.

‘’Academic programs in school will not go on normally because there are no classrooms, sharing classes means some lessons must be skipped,’’ he disclosed.

Mr. Nganga appealed to the government to inspect buildings in all schools and ensure the classes especially in primary schools to ensure they are safe to be used by the pupils.

‘’Human life is very important and we should not take up risks because some buildings in our primary schools are in pathetic state,’’ he said.
