Drama unfolded at Kiriko village in Teso North Sunday evening after a prominent pastor left the congregation and hastily joined a crowd that was in the process of lynching a suspected thief and hit a good Samaritan who was trying to intervene with a metal on the head leaving him helpless.
It's alleged that the suspect Geofrey Edekere,35, is fond of stealing. He had stolen a cell phone belonging to Alex Papa before proceeding to a drinking place unaware that his forty days were knocking .
Ann Imai an eyewitness, said that the owner of the phone tried calling his phone which was going through and not being responded to hence making people at the drinking place raise concern and told him to pick in which he refused.
A man is said to have picked up the phone and spoken to the distressed owner who said that someone had entered his house while he had gone out making away with his phone.
Men seated enjoying the local brew pounced on him with kicks and blows before frog matching him out where other residents joined them baying for his blood, but a good Samaritan intervened pleading with the crowd to have mercy on him.
As the mob was still meditating on what to do, a pastor preaching at a nearby church left the congregation and stormed the crowd and hit the mediator with a metal on the fore head rendering him helpless claiming that he was trying to save a notorious thief.
The mob was shocked and furiously turned to the pastor exchanging bitter words with him paving a clear way for the thief to escape.
