A Kenyan long distance truck driver yesterday morning escaped death narrowly as irate Ugandan residents wanted to lynch him at the Uganda –Malaba checkpoint after being involved in a fatal accident that claimed the lives of two Ugandan women who died on the spot.

Eye witness reported to journalists that the two were on a motorbike heading towards Kenya closely chasing against a fast moving truck from Kampala before they swayed left and rammed onto the truck that hit the two women dead. The accident occurred as they were trying to overtake the lorry.

The driver survived the ordeal after crossing the border through the crowd and escaped safely.

‘The motor bike driver was riding at a high-speed to overtake the lorry but bumped onto the lorry from the left side of the lorry that crushed the two Ugandan women who died on spot while the driver  managed to escape as the crowd bayed for his blood’, said a Ugandan eye witness who sought  anonymity.

The anxious crowd is said to have turned to the Kenyan driver with kicks and blows ready to lynch him before he was rescued by Ugandan police men.

Confirming the incident ,Joseph Mwesije the  Chief Inspector in charge of the Malaba police station in Uganda said the that  bodies were taken to Tororo mortuary  as police officers are launching investigations over the matter  .

Mwesije also said that the driver is being held at the Uganda police station and will be arraigned ones the investigations are complete, meanwhile the police are searching for the motorbike driver who escaped.
