Three middle aged men escaped death today by a whisker after they were attacked by residents on suspicion they were thieves.
The men, cornered at Mandizini area within Bungoma town, were allegedly found with a stolen bicycle that had been missing for some time.
According to an eye-witness the trio was found by security guards attached to a private security firm who attacked them attracting the residents who on learning they were in possession of a bicycle that had got lost, joined in attacking them with crude weapons.
Two of them were badly injured while one managed to escape.
The injured suspects were later taken to Bungoma District Hospital; one of them is reported to be in a critical condition.
However, a section of residents claimed the three are bodaboda operators within town and not thieves as alleged.
