Harambee Stars in a past match with the Uganda Cranes in Kampala.

The Sunday game will be Kenya’s second away visit to Togo, the first since 26 June 2003 during the fifth and penultimate 2004 AFCON Group 5 game.

Togo won that game 2-0, to hand Kenya the only loss in the Group. But nonetheless, Harambee Stars had done enough earlier, and added with a 1-0 win in the final group game against Cape Verde in Nairobi thereafter, proceeded to qualify for the 2014 AFCON held in Tunisia, the first time in 12 years.

The latest rankings released on Wednesday 6 June 2012, Togo marginally dropped over the months to position 98 and 24th in Africa while Kenya has moved upward to land at 111 and 29th in Africa.

In the Sunday game, Kenya will hope to avoid defeat and search for a draw, at the very least, if not a win, to sail through to the second round of the competition on goal aggregate.

Carrying a 2-1 score to Sunday, a draw of any kind will do for Kenya; a win will make it better, but the aggregate winner will then make it to the second round of qualifiers that will be played on 7–9 September (first leg) and 12–14 October 2012 (second leg).

Last line ups

Game winner Allan Wanga is injured and out of the team. Pascal Ochieng, Dennis [Omino] Odhiambo and Osborne Monday, all of whom started that game were left behind nursing injuries. Striker Taiwo Atieno, a substitute then, was not called up for the game

For Togo, it is clear that they will play without striker Emmanuel Adebayor who was also a no show in the Nairobi encounter.
