ODM Lugari branch chairperson Mr. Nabii Nabwera has urged the government to increase salaries for Early Childhood Education (ECD) teachers in recognition of their hard work. He said this when addressing parents and primary schools teachers at the Lumakanda Teachers Advisory Hall.
Nabwera wondered why the government was not paying what he termed as peanuts to ECD teachers while they are the ones who do a lot of hard work in imparting learners with the elementary skills of reading, writing and even speaking.
“The heavy burden of imparting learners with the elementary skills of speaking, writing and reading rests in the hands of a nursery school teacher; even the best of scholars in the world know this, yet ironically, it is that teacher who is lowly paid?” said Nabwera.
He also asked the government to employ nursery school teachers on permanent basis in order to motivate and boost their morale for work.
He observed that sports and music had turned out to be among the leading foreign exchange earners in the country, and therefore appealed to pupils and students from Lugari district to participate in various co-curricular activities in order to identify and nurture their talents alongside academics.
