A youth group in Kimilili Town of Bungoma County has embarked on a program to clean the town in collaboration with the municipal council an initiative to keep the environment clean and curb the possibilities of disease outbreak.

Speaking during one of the exercise in the town the group Coordinator Kinuthia Mbatia said it’s an initiative to make sure they take responsibility of achieving a clean environment through teamwork. He further disclosed that the Talent For Christ Group which consists of twelve youth from within the town decided to partake the work voluntarily within the estates, to gather litter around which will in turn be collected by the municipals tractor for dumping.

''The tractor may not get access to every point in town so we decided to ease their work by collecting the garbage at one point for easy access,'' said Kinuthia. He however, called upon the Kimilili residents to be cautious of polluting the environment and make use of the dustbins installed by the municipal council as a way of conserving the environment.

Apart from volunteer work, he said the group is involved in conducting civic education to the public on leadership prior to the general election to be held later in the country. '' With the youth forming a majority of the voters population we need to empower ourselves to be independent and sustain ourselves in for a better Kenya,'' added Kinuthia.

However, he called upon donors to help fund such groups which have potential to transform the society yet lack financial stability to be in a stable position to execute services.
