Regional ball games in Busia County are to be held in Butula District which will comprise of all schools from six districts namely; Bunyala, Samia, Nambale, Teso north and south, and Butula districts.
Acting Bunyala District sports chairman Mr. Reuben Baraza said that the games shall be held on 13th and 14th of July then after the best schools shall combine to face the western region ball games which are likely to be hosted in Bungoma County.
Speaking during the secondary schools ball games in Bunyala district he commented that some districts like Bunyala district, the level of sports is still too low therefore efforts need to done to uplift sports in the district.
“We hope with coming County structure of devolved government will try to build youth talents at grassroots levels for their better future and growth of sports in the country,” he added.
He even urged the government to come up with proper budget to the ministry of sports as we head to the devolved government come next year to give youth room to participate fully in sports from primary level to tertiary level as only way to build stars in the country.
Being the school principal Mundika secondary school, he disclosed that the main challenge facing sports in Busia County especially in Bunyala District may be caused by having few secondary schools in the district hence less competition.
He also said that parents are not being supportive enough to encourage their kids to join sports. .
Showing the results of the Bunyala district secondary school ball games that took place on 30th and 31st June; In football John Osogo boys emerged the winner after beating Makunda one goal to nil, Volleyball boys; Makunda boys won three sets to nil against Musoma boys.
Whereas for the girls’ category, football Makunda girls scored Wanjala girls' two goals to one in penalty shootout, in Volleyball bunyala girls won three sets to nil against Mundere girls'.
In table tennis Namenya girls defeated Makunda girls’ three scores to nil, boys Budalangi won three to nil against Makunda. Badminton girls Namenya defeated three scores to nil against Makunda and boys Budalangi defeated Makunda three scores to nil.
