Kakamega DC Wisdom Mwamburi has banned the green maize trade in the district and instructed his chiefs and assistant chiefs to arrest anyone being involved in the business.
Mwamburi said the trade has played a major part in the in the spread of hunger in the region.
“As we speak there are people who are already in the district and are buying the maize stalks which they will harvest and come back to sell to the same people expensively,” said Mwamburi.
He also noted that the resident also harvest the maize and sell them cheaply to the traders leaving themselves without food a reason the attack by hunger.
“We don't need our people to indulge in a trade that will leave them without food and that is why we have taken then step because they sell the product at a cheaper price and later pay the bigger prize,” he remarked.

Mwamburi urged farmers as well to take their harvest especially grains to the nearest produce and cereal boards’ storage.
“Our people here have no modern means of grain storage but I think there are some who can take their products to the cereal boards for storage because most of them record losses when their products get attacked by pests” he said.
