Livestock PS and Bungoma County governorship hopeful Ken Lusaka has revealed that he will be resigning from public service to focus on his political career at the end of August.

Lusaka says that the move will be in fulfilling the precepts in the miscellaneous amendment Bill which demands that public servants vacate office six months prior to elections.

“The miscellaneous amendments bill gave it to six months for public officers interested in politics to quit from office, which means that I have up to the end of this month end to be in the office,” he said.

The revelation follows Tuesday’s ruling by the Court of Appeal on the election date, which saw the judges settle for March 4, 2013 as the day for the General Elections.

Lusaka asserted that he is yet to announce the party which he intends to use as a vehicle to ascend to power when the right term comes, citing that the law bars government officials from belonging to a political party.

He further  disclosed that he will not single handedly pick a running mate, and that he will leave the task to the people to propose to him a  strong character from one of  the minority communities in the larger Bungoma county, possibly from Mt. Elgon.

“The running mate is going to come from Mt. Elgon to take care of the minority groups, but I have told the people from Mt. Elgon to handpick somebody, I have told them to agree on a popular candidate who can join me so that we can work together. I want someone who will add value to our cause, somebody whose objectives will match what I stand for,” said Lusaka.

Lusaka spelled out that he has his eyes focused on the price and that sideshows and/or distractions will not be entertained adding that he will face competition head on, focusing on the agenda to become a vision oriented leader.

He also voiced his concerns on the recent Luhya unity hatched by some politicians from the larger Bungoma region saying that the unity that is being talked about should be structured, all inclusive and should bring on board more stakeholders, so that the agenda for the unity is not to sideline or block other leaders from attaining their ends.

“Let us get all the communities, all the stakeholders on board, what is the objective of the unity, is it to lock somebody out, is it to share seats, can we be told so that the unity is structured. We do not want one person to talk about our unity and at end of it mortgage a whole community,” said the PS.

The PS further revealed that he plans to address the plights of the minorities in the large Bungoma cosmopolitan region, and that he has already in his campaign secretariats both at the national and county level encompassed representatives from the various communities, to help his team understand the concerns of the marginalized and address them appropriately. Meritocracy, honesty, inclusivity and equitable distribution of resources among other factors, Lusaka said will guide his style of leadership if elected governor; and that he plans to marshal revenue from local tourism, revival of collapsed industries to supplement the county budgetary allocation of Sh 7.2 billion allocated by the County Revenue Allocation commission.
