High Court Judge Lady Justice Jeanne Wanjiku Gacheche is the latest victim of the judiciary vetting exercise to be declared unsuitable to serve as judge.

Gacheche becomes seventh, joining six other justices Riaga Amollo, Samuel Bosire, Emmanuel O’kubasu and Joseph Nyamu as well as Supreme Court Judge Mohammed Ibrahim and Justice Roseline Nambuye who were earlier axed from service by the vetting board following a thorough vetting exercise.

In delivering the determination, the vetting of judges and magistrates board vice chair Roseline Odede cited that despite the board finding the judge free of corruption allegations and never compromised her integrity, her conduct in issuing blanket conservatory orders as requested by three insurance companies is perceived to have served injustice to claimants; who were blocked from accessing benefits to various policies.

Odede went ahead to explain that Gacheche’s orders over the insurance matter “severely damaged the careers of legal practitioners as well as undermining the working of magistrates who were dealing with running down claims throughout the country, leading to negative perception of the public towards the judiciary.”

Other judges whose verdicts were announced and declared fit to be in the judiciary included Lady Justice Wanjiru Karanja, Lady Justice Jessie Wanjiku Lessit and Justice Amraphael Mbogholi Msagha.

Gacheche presently serves as the resident judge in Kericho

The board will in a fortnight rule whether Justices Kalpana Rawal, Martha Koome and Maraga will continue serving in the Judiciary
