The accident that occurred along Kaptagat- Eldoret road, involved a lorry transporting over 20 second hand clothes traders from Metkei Market, Keiyo South District that veered off the road and it rolled several times killing four on the spot.
Confirming the incident, Keiyo District Police Chief Joseph Ireri said the driver of the lorry lost control as he tried to negotiate a wet section of the road at Choop Trading Centre.
Four people, all of them male, died on the spot while the fifth victim, a female, was pronounced dead at Eldoret’s Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital where the rest of the casualties were rushed by samaritans for immediate treatment.
Witnesses pinpointed at over speeding, the excess number of passengers and poor visibility coupled with the rain pounding the area to have contributed to the accident.
