Tirikis on FaceBook (ToFB) staged a peaceful demonstration dubbed Operation Firimbi to Hamisi District headquarters demanding transfer of area OCS whom they claim has outlived his mandate in the district.

In a letter written to the District Commissioner and signed by the chairman of ToFb Mr. Mwanga Shiribwa and the secretary Sultan Matendechero explained that the security system in the district has failed to live up to the standards.

The security personnel is said to have failed to respond on time to emergencies, and calls for help from the members of the community. As a result it has caused residents a lot of pain, suffering and great loss.

The movement was suggesting to the relevant security operatives and institutions directly tasked with the safety of residents of the District to join their initiative as well as strengthen the existing system to secure the District.

They were required to send a clear message that the security teams will not tolerate nor condone criminal activities in the region and therefore shall act decisively to deal with anyone engaging in such activities that shall tend to interfere with peace and security of the residents of the region.

In that letter, the movement was demanding that a major reshuffle of the security team, in the District is a must in the shortest time possible, that the security team, in the District must be availed with patrol cars that can be on standby to respond to emergencies.

The demonstration led to an hour meeting with the district security team chaired by Hamisi acting DC Luis Rono and Vihiga OCPD Peter Kimani who assured the officials that their cries were genuine and going to be dealt with immediacy as some had already been tackled.

The OCPD revealed to them that the OCS whom they wanted transferred had been moved to another district a day prior the demonstration and also called on the members of the public to give relevant information to the police about suspects so that to reduce crime cases in the region.

On his part the acting DC assured the residents he is going to mobilize the security team and they’re going to be on the watch.

The acting DC regretted that the residents are unwilling to cooperate with the police when suspects are apprehended and called on them whenever a suspect is arrested they should come out and record a statement with the police for the suspects to be arraigned in court.

On the issue of rise of rape cases in the district, the DC urged residents to always report cases to the police and fills the P3 forms so as to provide evidence against the perpetrator before the law courts.
