Independence party KANU is in a new move of assessing and recollecting its properties and assets across the country as it rushes to comply with the political parties act and other new changes facing political parties under the new dispensation.

In the new process the party has alerted all fraudsters and grabbers that have illegally acquired its assets nationally to surrender the properties or face a court action.

Speaking at the Trans Nzoia party offices in Kitale, KANU secretary General Nick Salat said the party is not taking the matter lightly since people have encroached on its assets and are financially incapacitating it.

“We have put all our tenants and fraudsters on notice that they should surrender all the property they have illegally taken or face a court action,” Salat said.

Reacting to calls by members for party elections, Salat said financial constraints occasioned by the fraudsters have led to delays in the party elections which he noted shall be held soon to have the party get new officials to have it fast track its endeavors.

He however noted that members should bear in mind that the party should have its activities run by its own funds rather than depending on funding from an individual member and thus it is soliciting for funds before announcing the party elections date.

Salat said it would be shameful for the cockerel party to hold a funds drive to raise funds for its activities yet it is the richest Party in the country.

He revealed that the party was doing an audit on the assets in Kitale town that he said was suspicious because a reasonable amount of its assets had been grabbed and had a small portion of land left to accommodate the office.

But surpringly he announced that those who had misappropriated the party properties in one way or another had been forgiven as the party starts a new dawn to re-brand itself for the new challenges facing it in its bid to access power once again.

The decision sparked a lot of opposition from a section of the branch party officials led by one controversial Saddam Somek who said that the secretary general was not right in what he was doing and could not sit and watch him walk and sit with some of the people whom he claimed had sold the party property.

Saddam who claimed to be a life member of the party walked out of the meeting in protest and told the secretary to make it clear to the members how they arrived at the decision of opening an account to have the tenants and other defaulters of the party remit their money to and called for party elections to be held before any other party activities are undertaken. 

Salat who was accompanied by former Maendeleo Ya Wanawake chairperson Ziporah Kitonyi toured the area to asses party assets and put rent defaulters on the spot.

He at the same time pledged to have vigorous political rallies in different parts of the country to have the party reloaded and rejuvenated to be made popular at the grass roots once again after going in the doldrums in the recent past.
