The acting Bungoma South District Commissioner Sylvester Mwangulu has given a directive to stop all constructions at the Mayanja Dispensary in Kibabii location until investigations are done over allegations of misappropriation of funds allocated by the Kanduyi CDF kitty.

Mwangulu said that government officials from the district and the province will visit the institution next week to probe the management for alleged misappropriation of over Sh. 750,000 from the CDF.

He was speaking in Mayanja during a public baraza to address the issue where the locals had threatened to stage a peaceful demonstration as a sign of discontent with the construction of the dispensary.

Mr. Mwangulu directed that the Project Management Committee at Mayanja dispensary should account for all the money allocated by CDF.

“We understand that a total of Sh 750,000 was allocated in installments of Sh. 200,000, Sh250, 000 and Sh 300,000, but there are no records to ascertain how the money was spent,” Mwangulu pointed out.

The administrator said that the government is determined to make sure that those who will be found guilty of embezzling public funds will face the law.

The DC said that members of Project Management Committees must be elected by the public as opposed to co-opting to ensure the right people with high levels of integrity are given the mandate to manege public funds.

Mwangulu disclosed that Kibabii location is leading within Bungoma South for misappropriation of public funds while warning that the law will take its course to those who are adamant to let go off the vice.

Led by the former Councilor Wycliffe Khisa the residents insisted that the dispensary management should be held responsible for misappropriation of CDF funds.

“We were told that the money was supposed to construction of the Doctors house and the administration block but no project has been implemented up to date,” Mr. Khisa said.

Its alleged that pioneer workers at the dispensary were dismissed last year without notice and that they are yet to receive their dues from the management.

“I worked as a nurse at the dispensary and they were paying me Sh. 4,000 per month, but after I was dismissed last year they still owe me Sh. 16,000 which they are not willing to pay,” a former nurse said.
