A total of nine computers were stolen from the Busia District Headquarter when unknown people broke into the Busia District treasury, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and the district public health office.
Confirming the robbery, Busia County Commissioner Joyce Isiakho condemned the act saying investigations have already been launched by the security team from the provincial headquarter, in collaboration with colleagues from Busia County to ensure those behind the theft are brought to book.
“The search is on and no stone will be left unturned until when the suspects will be arrested and charged before a court of law,” said Isiakho while briefing journalists at the scene of incident.
She added that routine operation at the district headquarter have been put to a halt by the theft of the computers which had very vital information.
The commissioner further expressed concern over the incident saying, it has occurred at a time when preparations for the peace forum were scheduled to take place on Monday.
Isiakho urged all district commissioners from the entire Busia County to ensure effective measures are put in place to protect office properties from being stolen.
Out of the nine computers stolen seven were from the Busia district treasury, one from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and another one from the public health office.
However, some civil servants have expressed shock at the incident saying the theft must have been well coordinated considering that the place is well guarded by administration police officers.
The incident comes barely a day after thugs broke into Teso North district headquarter offices at Amagoro and made a way with several computers and other accessories.
