Four Somali aliens suspected to be members of Alshaabab terrorists are being held at Yala Police Station in Siaya County following a tip off by the members of the public.
Confirming the arrest, Busia OCPD Kenneth Kimani said the four suspects had hired four boda-boda operators to transport them up to Mundika trading centre 10 kilometres away from Busia town where they finally boarded a matatu destined for Kisumu.
He said a passenger who was travelling in the same matatu opted to cut the journey short and informed the police who acted swiftly and alerted police officers based at Bumala patrol base to block the vehicle.
“By the time police officers at Bumala patrol base received the call, the vehicle had already passed,” said Kimani, adding that he alerted police officers at Yala police station who managed to stop the vehicle and arrested the suspects.
The OCPD commended the members of the public for passing the information to the police hence enabling them to arrest the suspects.
He however cautioned the boda-boda operators against being driven by demand for money to ferry criminals posing as passengers with sinister motives at the expense of security.
“Measures have been put in place to ensure all entrants use designated entry points for purposes of security which is very crucial and cannot be compromised,” said Kimani briefing journalists in Busia. Switch to Our Mobile Site |
