Labour Assistant Minister Sospeter Ojaamong is demanding the resignation of the Police Commissioner Matheew Iteere for failing to contain the he increasing police shooting incidents in Teso.

This follows massive shooting and killing of residents by Senior Police officers with no action taken against the embattled officers instead some have been transferred and   promoted after Ojaamong presented His peoples grievances.

In July 29, 2012 Malaba Deputy OCS shot and killed a boda boda operator, Peter Maranga who was among the demonstrator s who were protesting the killing of their colleague. Thr incident prompted the Independent Melico Legal Unit (IMLU) to write to Teso Police OCPD Elphas Korir to roll out an inquest over the death of the motorcyclist by the Deputy OCS of Malaba then.

In November 2011, Malaba Deputy OCS opened fire on two of his colleagues killing one on the spot and injured the other one.

It is claimed the Deputy OCS was instead transferred and promoted to a rank of OCS in one of the stations with no action taken against him.

Two days ago, Adungosi OCS Wiliam Cheruyot shot and injured a guard on the leg in a complicated situation that is being investigated.

The Adungosi shooting comes barely a month when Ojaamong stormed the station over alleged public extortion   and harassment.

The incident follows massive complaints from bodaboda operators who lament over increased police harassment and bribery along Malaba-Busia highway especially at Alupe junction where the officers are said to have camped.

The bodaboda riders claimed that the officers manning the junction usually demand for Ksh 50 and if they are not in position to provide, they fake an offence taking them to police station then court where they are charged with total of Ksh 11,000.

Drama unfolded when Ojaamong who is also the area Mp raided the OCS Office at 4pm and stayed there for almost 30minutes without his knowledge.

OCS William Cheruyot appeared sometimes later looking nervous and worried by the presence of the Amagoro legislator who wanted to confirm the allegations from the public.

The officer was caught off guard failing to answer question s to the satisfactory of the Assistant minister. Cheruyoit denied the allegations however promised to carry out investigations and to reshuffle the officers in a bid to curb the rampant claims from the public.

Ojaamong asked the OCS and his officers to desist from extorting money from the public lest astern action is taken against them.

Amagoro Legislator now wants Iteere to resign saying he has reported to him several times with no action being taken against the officers.
