 Tree trunks that have been cut and abandoned.
Teso South District Forest department has begun implementing a new law to regulate the extensive tree cutting by the residents.
The new law that was effective Wednesday only authorizes an individual to cut and sell a tree after consent from the area chief or the assistant chief in order.
Addressing parents, teachers and pupils of Okatekok primary school in Teso South, Lawrence Etyan’g the District Forester, asked the residents to desist cutting trees and embrace the spirit of planting trees daily saying that it will benefit them and the families.
Etyan’g expressed optimism that the new law will ensure that the environment is not degraded and people cutting trees anyhow be brought to book and dealt with.
The officer led the residents in planting more than 200 trees in the school and urged teachers and pupils to maintain the trees adding that it will be of vital help if taken good care of.
He mandated the chiefs to crack down all people who will be found eluding the law adding that he will not relent to create sanity in the area. Switch to Our Mobile Site |
