Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi has said that the seat of president in this country is not a reserve of any individual or group of people but will only be determined by God and the electorate.

Speaking while addressing opinion leaders from Trans Nzoia County, Mudavadi said that any leadership position at any level is not meant for specific people.

"The seat of president or any other elective seat be it parliamentary or county representative is not for anybody because there is nowhere it is written that it belongs to Mudavadi or Mukhisa or anybody else. It is on the Almighty God and the voters who will decide the president of this country on the voting day," Mudavadi said.

He said that there are leaders in this country who have moved around selling their policies to an extend where they believe a particular seat is reserved for them.

The Sabatia MP at the same time challenged the people who branded him in the previous polls that he was a coward and wondered as to why his announcement to go for the presidency is causing ripples and restlessness in different camps.

"The other time they said I am a coward but why are they now panicking and fearing after I announced my candidature if I am a coward," Mudavadi noted.

Mudavadi at the same time called for unity among the people of this country and more so in Trans Nzoia which he said like many others that is the face of the country basing on its cosmopolitan nature. He urged Kenyans to elect leaders who are respected but not feared hence can be advised or corrected without fear of facing any consequences.

First round win

Accompanied by former trade minister Dr Mukhisa Kituyi and briefly joined by Marakwet West MP Boaz Keino, the UDF presidential hopeful reiterated his move of jumping ship from ODM and affirmed that he was confident his new political vehicle will enable him to enter state house.

He urged Kenyans not to accept to go in for a run-off in the next general elections by voting him in on a UDF ticket noting that such a move shall be too expensive for the country that is in need of very many other essential services.

The Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission -IEBC budget that was recently passed was cited to be too expensive and therefore, he cautioned Kenyans not to make this country be the most expensive worldwide in hosting elections.

Marakwet West MP Boaz Keino(R),former Trans branch ODM chair Malavi and Mudavadi at the meeting.

Luhya unity

On the elusive Luhya unity, Mudavadi said that he was committed and ready to dialogue with fellow leaders from the community and noted that people should not see him as one who is not ready to work with others.

He pointed out that there are no differences between the Luhya sub-tribes such as his Maragoli sub-tribe and Bukusu or any other community in the region or entire country.

Under the new dispensation Mudavadi pointed out that the new constitution guides what a president or any leader is supposed to do and what not to do hence tribal leadership shall no longer thrive.

I am not Kibaki’s project

Earlier, while addressing stakeholders in Webuye of Bungoma County, Mudavadi dismissed claims that he is President Mwai Kibaki’s project and endorsee to succeed him in the next general elections.

Mudavadi wondered why he was being referred to as a project and yet his colleagues in the same race were also having talks with other politicians, but they were not termed as projects.

“Why is it that I am the only one seen as a project while Raila is having talks with Maina Njenga and many other presidential candidates but they are not termed as projects,” said Mudavadi.

This comes a few days after Mudavadi was appointed to represent the President in a national conference despite the presence of the Vice President in the same conference and similarly called upon to officially welcome the president on the Madaraka day celebrations.

He called upon the Luhya community to unite and produce one presidential candidate who will be the flag bearer of the community terming this coming election as the best chance for a luhya president.

“As Luhya community we need to unite and produce one presidential candidate that we would all support to avoid chaos in the forthcoming general elections,” said Mudavadi.

He says Eugene Wamalwa used to say that if Mudavadi was to vie for presidency he would back him and now that he has officially announced he is on the race to State House, why can’t he then step down for him and support him as he had promised earlier.

“Wamalwa used to say that if I declared my presidential ambition, he would back me up so why can’t he live up to his word and step down for me,” said Mudavadi.

He clarified that his interaction with key leaders in G7 camp is not after locking out anyone’s political ambition and vowed to continue having talks with them to identify one favorable candidate who will be succeeding president Kibaki.

Speaking at the same function the former Kimilili legislator, Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi stated that Kenyans need a neutral presidential candidate who had not been in the race before.

“Generation for Raila, Saitoti and Kombo should not seek for presidency since Moi, Kibaki and Kenyatta took their time,” said Dr.Mukhisa.
