Jubilee nominations in West Pokot County have been delayed for the better part of the morning as anxiety looms among residents. Most polling centres had not been opened as at 9.30 a.m.
Members of the public have been left stranded as County party official fail to explain. Residents started streaming at polling stations as from 5 in the morning but until 9.00 am voting had not started.
Residents called on the party to come out clearly on the issue as why the exercise has delayed. “People have started going back home because they have waited for long and nothing is taking place. We have not seen any official here,” said Chebet.
A spot check in most polling stations of Makutano Primary school, Nasokol Primary school,Murkwijit Center and St. Mary’s primary showed that no voting was going oon.
In Sigor Constituency Peter Lochakapong is now unopposed after his competitor the Sigor member of parliament ditched Jubilee and joined Chama cha Mashinani.
On the women representative seat ,Lillian Chepchepkai will battle out with Josephine Lokoma after the incumbent women representative Regina Nyeris decamped from Jubilee to Chama cha Mashinani.
In Kacheliba John Lodinyo will have a direct ticket after the incumbent member of parliament Mark Lomunokol ditched the Jubilee party.
However, KANU parliamentary primaries for Kacheliba and Kapenguria are ongoing.
Ballot papers for KANU arrived in style on a motorbike and voting started at 8.15 am.
This could complicate the political equation as most of the incumbent leaders defect from Jubilee party over what is seen to be unfair competition.
