Political winds in West Pokot County have taken a new twist as Jubilee leaders from the county hit back at rivals over claims that the county is KANU zone.
Jubilee leaders have accused their rivals of abusing the Deputy President William Ruto over the control of the county politics ahead of the August elections.
The leaders faulted KANU for marginalizing the community for a long time and termed those supporting the party in the County as selfish leaders.
This comes a few days after KANU leaders Senator John Lonyangapuo and former Minister Samuel Poghisio were endorsed by a section of elders from the county to vie for the county’s top jobs on a KANU ticket.
A tough battle between the two parties is expected in the county as the area governor Simon Kachapin with a section of area MPs are campaigning for Jubilee Party while senator Lonyangapuo and Poghisio are urging residents to stick with KANU.
Speaking at Chebkophee in Pokot South constituency, the Jubilee leaders led by Pokot South Member of Parliament David Pkossing and former Kapenguria member of parliament Rev. Julius Murgor maintained that West Pokot is a Jubilee zone.
“There is no KANU here, Jubilee is the party that will carry the day come August,” said Pkossing.
The leaders vowed to popularize the Jubilee party in the area and make sure it gets enough votes. “Residents should listen to us and ignore the leaders who lie,” said Pkossing.
“We recently heard secretary general Nick Salat saying that Lonyangapuo has nothing in KANU,” said Pkossing.
Rev. Murgor who is eyeing the senator’s seat in the county said Jubilee party will win all seats in the upcoming August Polls.
He said that he ditched the ODM party after realizing that it did nothing for area residents.
Murgor accused KANU party of remaining undecided on who to support in the upcoming polls.
“They’ve been hiding and no one knew if they were supporting the government or the opposition till recently when Nick Salat announced they’re in NASA,” he said.
