For the second year in a row, Kakamega County has produced the leading student in the KCPE exams, Rawlings Odhiambo Aketch from Kakamega Hill School, who scored 453 marks and tied with Olive Mwea Wachira from Riara School as the best performers. On Tuesday, celebrations were in top gear in Kakamega as Rawlings Odhiambo delighted in his good performance. The 14-year-old said he had expected a good performance and that his dreams had come true. He attributed the good result to hard work, revision, determination and God’s hand.
He said that he doubted if he could be the top student after Education CS Amina Mohamed released the results, “When Amina released the results I began doubting, will I be the top student? When I sent the code I was surprised to see I had the 453 marks. I was very excited,” he said, amidst jubilation. The KCPE top student said he would like to join Alliance Boys High School and pursue his dream of being a neurosurgeon.
Rawling’s father couldn’t hide his excitement and said he is proud of his son, “He promised to do it and he has done it…It’s not through luck but he has been consistent in it and has been working hard,” he said. This year, Kakamega Hill School has produced 68 candidates who scored above 400 marks in the KCPE exams according to the school director and that last year the number was 78.
