Preparations for the KCPE exams in Trans Nzoia County have been completed, with pupils adequately assembled. According to the Trans Nzoia County Director of Education Dickson Ogonya 2,256 thousand students will sit for the exams set to start on Tuesday with more girls registered than boys in the County. The number of girls registered in the County is 12,217 while 12,039 boys have been registered.
Cherangany constituency has more examination centres, 139 in number, while Endebess constituency has only 51 centres. The private centres are three, situated at Trans Nzoia primary in Saboti, Nai primary in Endebess and Sibanga in Cherangany.
In terms of registered candidates, Kiminini constituency leads with 5,992, followed closely by Cherangany which has registered 5,667 candidates while Endebess has registered only 2,615 candidates.
Ogonya said the low enrolment of students, especially in Endebess Constituency, was as a result of the high poverty level, with many parents working as casual labourers in Agricultural Development Co-corporation farms.
Elsewhere students from Kitale School had also prepared for the KCPE exam. According to the school headteacher Hezbon Ngaira, the candidates are well prepared and no stone has been left unturned in the preparations. He said all registered candidates were 215, with 106 girls, and the boys 109. He added that they are hopeful the school will perform better this year.
In the neighbouring Showground Primary school, 24 students will sit for the exam according to the school’s deputy headteacher Sister Mellan Namasaka, who expressed her confidence that they’ll score better results this year.
She said so far there were no challenges witnessed in the preparations, despite the political tension in some parts of the country, which might have affected the preparations for some children. She, however, urged politicians to desist from spreading political propaganda close to schools and engaging in demonstrations which may affect the level of preparedness for the students.
