As the nomination process for various parties nears ahead of the general election in August, the FORD Kenya party leadership has been urged to ensure a free and fair nomination is conducted so as to provide a level field for all candidates intending to vie. Kimilili parliamentary hopeful Richard Masinde Sibilibili said being a FORD Kenya diehard since the era of its founder, the late Masinde Muliro, he believes the current party leader Moses Wetangula will be able to provide a straight forward and transparent leadership during this period.
He said the current Kimilili MP Suleiman Murunga holding the post of the director of election in the party has somehow scared away some of the contestants who were eyeing the party tickets. “It should be left to the people of Kimilili to decide who their leader will be. Therefore, no one should interfere with the process of nomination by imposing someone who is not popular on the ground, an issue that may end up costing our party,” he said.
Masinde also disagreed with the proposal that the gubernatorial position should be a nominative post, saying the issue of accountability may be compromised.
He says the governor is the most powerful person in the County as he controls all the resources trickling down from the national government under devolution, and he insisted the person mandated must be elected by the majority of residents in a County.
Mr. Masinde further tasked the Department of Water, under the County government to consider renovating boreholes for residents across the County, saying many of them are undergoing a rough time to get access to water.
He was addressing residents of Malanga village in Maeni ward, Kimilili constituency. His sentiments were echoed by area residents led by David Ouna who called upon the area MCA Florence Wekesa to ensure the County government funds the renovation of more boreholes in the area to help the residents access water easily.
