Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi has called on the IEBC (Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission) to take disciplinary action against politicians who are carrying out campaigns at night, saying it is against the election laws.
Speaking at Bidii ward in his constituency, Wanyonyi said as politicians, they won’t allow their opponents to continue their night time campaigns if IEBC doesn’t take any action. “We are not going to leave anything unattended to by allowing our competitors to campaign at night,” said Wanyonyi.
Wanyonyi argued that the way some politicians are going about their campaigns especially at night, might cause serious divisions amongst the supporters of rival camps and lead to disturbances.
The MP also appealed to security officers, including the county commissioners, to stop engaging in acts that portray they support and are campaigning for Jubilee, noting that their presence in Jubilee meetings has raised questions concerning their impartiality.
He disclosed that the officers have been seen in Jubilee meetings carrying some flour and other valuables which they’ve distributed.
His sentiments were echoed by his Kapomboi MCA aspirant Ben Wanjala Mlipuko who claimed to have seen several leaders in the constituency campaigning at night. He also supported the notion that some administration officers are campaigning for the Jubilee administration, reiterating that some officers have been seen distributing food stuff in Jubilee meetings.
However, Trans Nzoia County commissioner Anne Gakuria denied such allegations saying their work was to make sure services necessary from the National Government are relayed to the residents.
She urged the politicians to confirm any allegations they have from her office instead of propagating lies which may cause tension in the County.
