Civic leaders across Trans Nzoia County have cried foul over the escalating corruption in the governor Patrick Khaemba’s administration.
The leaders have called upon EACC team to scale deeper into the misuse of the county funds following the last week arrests of several county officers by the EACC team on corruption allegations.
Speaking at St.Teresa Girls Bikeke Secondary during a funds drive, Kiminini Mp Dr. Chris Wamalwa said he was shocked by the level of high corruption that has eaten into the wealth and resources of the county.
Dr. Chris Wamalwa lauded the efforts made by the EACC team in arresting the officers and further appealed for the anti corruption team to go for the county chief as he was answerable to the people who elected him to take care of their resources.
The Mp said that there was nothing good to show what the Governor has done as most projects he initiated have collapsed and even lacked meaning to the people among them the rabbit project which the Governor introduced and said the project was a white elephant that could help the locals earn income.
He criticized Governor Khaemba’s assertion which he had told farmers that tapping the rabbit urine would add value to them by selling the said urine to the oversees countries that will provide income for them, which he laughed at and told Khaemba to now account for the millions lost during the projects.
Chris Wamalwa also lamented on county’s multi-million solar lighting project that went up into smoke as it was vandalized and has failed the residents of the county which he said has failed as even the lights normally fail to start prompting darkness that used to be there before.
The Mp also descended on the Trans Nzoia county assembly majority leader Alfred Weswa and other MCAS on what he said are dining with the executive’s high tables and forgeting their jobs of oversight as several funds have been lost through dubious means without them raising queries.
He warned that they risk going home come next year’s General election for what he termed a disgrace and inability to perform their duties as is expected of them.
His sentiments were echoed by Saboti Mp David Lazaro who criticized the level of corruption saying that it has eaten into the resources of the county.
Mentioning the county Kenyatta stadium that has not been renovated for several years despite having been allocated Ksh.3OO,OOO for the renovation, he said corruption in the ministry of culture sports and social services headed by Eunice Jelimo Ndiwa is high.
The chief executive for the Non Governmental Organizations (NGOS), Maurice Kakai Bisau also criticized the increased level of corruption calling upon Governor Khaemba to explain to the public how the money is being lost to looters who are his officers.
He said several officials in the county are being involved in corruption as some have formed companies that they use to get tenders from the same administration and fail to deliver on the work for which they are destined to do.
He gave an example of an ECDE class at Chebarus primary, a polytechnic at Mukuyu, water spring at Sokomoko in Cherangany constituency and refurbishment of Mt. Elgon hospital in Kiminini constituency as some of the tenders won by the county officials.
The county MP for Trans Nzoia county Janet Nangabo also joined her colleagues in condemning the rampant corruption that has eaten into the assets of the county.
She said that the county Governor Patrick Khaemba should be held responsible for the loss of monies allocated to the county through corruption done by his officers.
She said that arresting officers was wrong as they are junior and the man responsible to tell Kenyans especially residents of Trans Nzoia is Governor Khaemba and the buck stops with him as he is the man who should tell residents how corruption has been going on.
She said residents want better roads infrastructures, water, good medication and the manner into which the county money has been going to waste is alarming.
