A sombre mood enveloped Mwamba market in Lugari Sub County following the brutal murder of a security guard at Lavonga bar and restaurant by unknown assailants. Speaking to members of the press, the business proprietor Mr. Noah Ndunde expressed his grief about the incident.
According to Ndunde, the body which had serious machete injuries on the neck and head was discovered by employees who had arrived to open the business in the morning.
Ndunde disclosed that the thugs made away with an assortment of electronic equipment and dozens of bottles of beers whose value was yet to be established,
The businessman lamented the regular attacks on his business premises, claiming it had been attacked more than ten times, losing property worth millions of shillings.
“I have on several occasions raised the issue to security apparatus, we’ve held security barazas here but the story is still the same. I’ve continually lost property and worst of all, my guard has now been butchered,” he said.
Ruth Mmbaya, one of the employees who had arrived to take a stock check at dawn said they found all doors wide open. When they looked for the watchman to establish what had happened, they were shocked to stumble on his body hidden in a butcher room at the
premise with blood strewn all over.
Residents have expressed their concern over increased cases of insecurity in the region where a series of criminal activities have been witnessed at the market in recent past.
They said it was disappointing that in a span of less than a week two boda boda operators have been attacked and robbed their motorbikes and also the neighbouring Bell canto bar was attacked before the murder of a watchman at Lavonga bar.
Speaking when she visited the scene, Lugari Deputy County Commissioner Mrs. Agnes Karoki Shadrack regretted the incident assuring residents of improved security.
Mrs. Karoki said a thorough investigation into the tragic event will be carried out to ensure suspects face the full wrath of the law.
