Lugari branch Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) vice chairman Clyde Jogoo has faulted the national government for alleged bias in implementing free primary and secondary program. Speaking at Maturu, in Matete, Jogoo expressed his disappointment by the way secondary schools were being favoured at the expense of primary schools.
“I want to say that the government is a little bit biased; it is doing well in secondary education section compared to primary education section. You can see when we opened schools they said they will bring materials for classes one and two for the new curriculum but up to now there’s nothing, our children are in schools at God’s mercy,” said Jogoo.
“They have brought new subjects new everything and promised to supply materials including even the FPE because initially, we used to purchase books at the school level but the government took up all responsibilities and yet it has not fulfilled its promises,” he
added.
Jogoo appealed to parents to sacrifice for the education of their primary school children by ensuring they have basic school requirement to enable learning to continue.
He said it was regrettable that since the beginning of the year the government has only given one exercise book per pupil in primary schools thus making learning difficult.
“The government has only given one exercise book per pupil yet we teach nine subjects, what do they expect our children to use? If you go to secondary schools students have been given more than enough books, both exercise books and textbooks, this is great biasness. If the government doesn’t need primary schools then it should come out clearly and tell us that we are of no importance or they should just let us go back to the old curriculum and we will struggle our level best to ensure these children get education,” said Jogoo.
