Police officers in West Pokot County have arrested a 26 year-old man for allegedly sodomizing a 7-year-old boy at Ortum, West Pokot County on Tuesday. Kapenguria OCPD Mr Anthony Wanjuu said the suspect Novesters Kimutai lured the boy while he was playing with his friends along Ortum river and took him to the bush where he strangled him and sodomized him.
He said the suspect gave the boy Kshs 10 to silence him, “After finishing his evil act he gave him the ten shilling coin and warned him not to tell his parents,” said Wanjuu.
Mr Wanjuu said the suspect immediately run away after committing the act to the minor but fortunately the boy had already identified him. “The boy managed to come back to his senses and narrated what the evil man had done to him,” he said.
The parents of the boy reported the incident to Ortum police post where police officers began the hunt for the culprit. The parents took the boy to Ortum Mission Hospital and later was referred to Kapenguria referral hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
Wanjuu said they managed to arrest the culprit at Ortum trading centre on Wednesday and is currently at Kapengurtia police station waiting to be taken to court. “According to our investigation the man is of sound mind and he is not mentally handicapped. He said he wasn’t drunk while doing the indecent act. The suspect will be arraigned in court after completion of investigations.
