Mastermind Tobacco officials arrested for assult
Three Mastermind Tobacco Kenya officials were arrested for allegedly assaulting and seriously injuring a businesswoman by breaking her three teeth for refusing to give them Ksh. 1, 000 after she was found selling unlicensed cigarettes at Kasarani village, Kongoni sub location in Likuyani Sub County
Confirming the incident , Likuyani OCPD, Mr. Meshack Kiptum said the men who claimed to be carrying raids against unlicensed cigarettes in the area entered Mrs. Beatrice Nyabonyi’s premise posing as customer and ordered for two super-match cigarettes.
However they realized the woman had given them one licensed cigarette an unlicensed one which had an export label and later discovered that she had several packets of the outlawed cigarettes on her shelves.
The offers then demanded the woman to buy her freedom by giving them Ksh. 1,000 but when she hesitated to give the cash they heavily assaulted her.
“It is claimed one of the officers landed heavy blows and kicks on the lady after she failed to give the team a fine of Khs.1000,” said Kiptum, adding that the lady lost three teeth from her mouth as a result.
But acting on alarm raised by traders, police officers at Matunda station rushed to the scene and arrested the officials.
“At the time of arrest, the three were actually fleeing using a private van Reg. No KBR 947B,” added the OCPD.
The man who assaulted the woman was identified as Mr. Iloyo Githinji Muchemi.
Some residents of the area who spoke to journalists led by Mr. Josphat Indeche strongly condemned the incident and demanded for fair justice.
