Down to earth and collected, Wyre can pass for just another boy in the hood. He does not carry the usual swagger that accompanies big names. As a matter of fact, he describes himself as a simple guy that can do anything for music. In an exclusive interview with West Fm,wyre revealed another side of him that is less known to the outside world. Born in Athi River the mellow voiced singer who has been recording music for the last 16 years has earned admiration in the country and beyond for his versatile music and superb vocal. This has put him a class of his own as a musician Wyre has churned popular hits after another with notable ones Chuki, Make a Choice and Gimme More distinguishing himself as one of the country’s best talents. He has collaborated with renowned musician like Uganda’s Bebe Cool,Two Face Indibia from Nigeria, Nazizi among many others. He is quick to distance himself from politics but believes in the youth’s capability to take on the reigns of leadership in the country. He says his ultimate goal is “youth empowerment and tries to enlighten the youth through his music. Wyre and his co- presenter Ian rocking Bungoma. He urges the youth not to be afraid of knowing their HIV status because they will be counseled on how to leave positively and how to increase their life span by living a healthy life. He points out that music is one of the most powerful media to pass a message through and with the youth being rebellious in nature, it is ideal to use their language in music to have their attention drawn to some of the issues. Wyre reveals that one of the reasons he wrote the song “Uprising” is because of the way the youth were manipulated and used during the post election violence period after the previous general elections by politicians to push their political agenda. In a time of vast unemployment and economic turmoil many of the youth are most certainly vulnerable to being politically misused. Wyre revealed that he has had training in martial arts but as of now he so out of touch couldn’t throw a kick to save his life. He involves himself in various youth empowerment groups like Population Council that he collaborated with to do a High schools tour in Nairobi .He also is trying to make a difference by joining the HIV awareness campaign trail .He came up with a slogan – Know my status plan my future .He believes without knowing ones status, one may not have a future to plan for. This was his first time in Bungoma and he revealed that he was impressed by the turn out at the Bungoma Trivia for Colleges function where he performed. His latest of fusion of zilizopendwa music and modern sound was an experiment gone successful and has opened up a new market for him among the corporate society and the older generation. |
