A middle aged man is being held at a police station in Lugari district for deliberately setting his house ablaze following a domestic quarrel between him and the wife Friday evening.

Confirming this Lugari deputy police boss, Mr. Gregory Mutiso, said that the incident occurred at about 11.30pm in Munyuki village, Lumakanda location immediately the drunken man identified as Mr. Joshua Simiyu,24, had arrived home and had a fracas with his wife, who it is claimed had declined to serve him with food.

It is then that he decided to set his grass-thatched house on fire, burning all property of unknown value inside it.

Mr. Simiyu was later descended on with blows and kicks by enraged colleagues with whom he had spent the better part of the evening taking illicit brew.

According to Mutiso it was one of Simiyu’s drunken colleagues who tipped police officers on patrol from Lumakanda station before they rushed to the scene and rescued him.

In a separate incident, a traveler is recuperating at Lumakanda district hospital after sustaining serious injuries when thugs accosted him minutes after he had alighted from a bus near Musembe market in Chekalini location of Lugari district Friday.

Confirming this, the Lugari deputy police boss said that the victim identified as Mr. Peter Lumbasi,35, was traveling from Nairobi aboard Mvumilivu bus when the incident occurred at about 5 a.m.

Mutiso said that one of the watchmen guarding property at the market alleged witnessing unidentified and unspecified number of boda boda operators ambush the traveler and seriously afflicting him with deep cuts on his mouth and head before speeding away with his luggage.

The victim who is unable to talk was rushed to Lumakanda hospital before police department identified and alerted his relatives.

Mr. Mutiso has urged area chiefs and their assistant chiefs to as a team with members of the community policing programme in order to stamp out insecurity and restore peace in the area.
