Valentine day phobia should now be a thing of the past, plan for the love day and strive to make it a total success compared to the previous ones, since it’s the one special day to celebrate the bitter-sweet feeling of true love.

While many refer to it as a commercialized holiday to earn the business men extra cents, as they capitalize on things that symbolize love like red flowers, valentine cards, chocolates, ice cream, teddy bears and many other sweet nothings.

To others it’s a day for looking forward to renewing the relationship vows and even to some it helps amend broken relationships. The flowers with an attached card enriched with the sweet messages of love are sent over to the lady’s place of work or home as a symbol of hope for a better future in the relationship.

Similarly the man gets his favorite football team’s jersey, a belt, a tie and a surprise meal of his favorite dish all owed to the love they feel for each other.

Costs and expenses are no longer things to worry about, as to most love birds happiness is more key than the costs of getting it.

Valentine’s Day is also used as a platform to enrich their feelings and take the relationship from one stage to another; it’s like a tool to climbing the ladder of love to greater heights and greater possibilities of tying the knot.

Men still feel disadvantaged at the expense of treating out their dates, while talking to my friend Caleb Sudi, he didn’t hesitate to express his concern at just how much they are taken advantage of on such occasions.

“Why is it that this is a day men have to dig deeper in pockets to impress ladies and yet all that a woman does is to be nice, available, ready to receive gift. I thought this should be two way. Remember: It’s better to give than to receive”, said Caleb.

But that comment did not go unanswered, a quick response came from my other friend Gladys Amakobe who according to Valentines is basically a special day for the lady to be shown real love and spoilt a bit by the lover and spouse which later she would reciprocate with wonderful moments in the bedroom affairs.

“Rosemary, please tell Caleb not to be negative about this valentine day issue, after  all at the end of all those expenses there is a magical moment awaiting so the dinner, the presents and making her feel special ,should just be expected as the man also knows what to expect later on,” said Ms. Gladys.

Besides there debate isn’t the love felt between the two greater than the costs and expenses that come with it?

Anyway there is a raised concern all the same that a lot may happen on that day away from the expected and normalcy of the day. Some people opt to spend the day with ‘mpango wa kando’, instead of their official partners and then the game of searching begins to those with no partners and hooking up is order of the day.

It’s a day full of surprises, some are unbearable like walking in to your partner or lover with another person as his date for the day while you were left home alone after being fed with lots of lies that didn’t add up but you had to believe anyway, for love’s sake they say.

“I think the best thing to do in that situation is to take a chance to walk up to them and ask, FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN MARRIED??? See on their faces how they answer, said my friend Caleb Sudi.

To others it’s the time to find out if you are the main partner or not, through radio stations you can try a prank and see how it goes, you can still call them up with a different number claiming to be a hotel management booking reservations for two and who they would like to bring along as their valentine’s day date…you will be surprised.
