Sprite Slam Kenya street ball unveils a 12 player team to take on And1

The Sprite Slam Kenya Street ball was unveiled Friday  with a 12 player team set to take on AND 1 live team this weekend at the Nyayo National Stadium basketball gymnasium.

The Sprite Kenya Street ball team selected from audition clinics around Kenya is upbeat and currently in training for the clash on April 21st.  Featuring top players such as Evans Letting aka Mean Maasai, they aim to break a record when they face off, as the AND 1 team have never lost while on tour outside of the US.

Speaking to affirm Sprite’s sponsorship of the And1 Live Africa Tour Catherine Mudachi, Coca-Cola Senior Brand Manager, said: “Sprite is extremely proud to be associated with And1’s second tour of East Africa, and it gives us great pleasure to provide a refreshing platform upon which lovers of the game of basketball can enjoy the live action of the undisputed kings of street balling”.

Bigger than last year, the 2012 Sprite AND 1 Live Africa tour now covers 6 countries in the region including Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Burundi, and Uganda. The team will also make a maiden tour of Mombasa.

The US based AND 1 live team comprises of street basketball players acclaimed for their flair and showmanship in the game. Fans can expect the same high energy stunts and fast pace basketball action that the team has come to be known for in their annual world tours.

Among the star players expected to feature in the tour include Hot Sauce, Spyda, Werm, 50, Jus Fly, Amazn, Highrizer, Polo, and the Pharmacist. These stars have featured in various events and movies, key among them the Nike Dribbling Commercials, ESPN Street Ball Series and various Streetball Video games for PS2, Xbox, PS3 and XBox 360.

Sprite Slam is a brand experiential platform that is developed to play on the youth’s passion for basketball and allows them opportunities to express their individuality. Through leveraging basketball, it allows the brand to build a strong, differentiated and compelling brand asset, and have a meaningful presence in grassroots basketball as a means to building long lasting connections with teens and young adults.

The Sprite Slam Tour, which targets the 16 to 24 year age group, is sanctioned by the national basketball federations across East Africa. Its competitive nature provides young basketball players with a rewarding experience. Previous tours have seen young talent benefit from coaching clinics and basketball tours.
