Justice Minister Eugene Wamalwa directs Tobiko to arrest Midiwo as G7 leaders preach peace, unity |

G7 leaders during the Justice minister Eugene Wamalwa's homecoming party held at the Kitale Show Grounds. Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister Eugene Wamalwa now wants Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo arrested for alleging a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Raila Odinga. He was speaking in Kitale on Sunday during his homecoming party attended by Deputy Prime minister Uhuru Kenyatta, Regional Development minister Fred Gumo, Information and Communication minister Samuel Poghisio, Nairobi Metropolitan minister Jamleck Kamau, Eldoret north MP William Ruto and Assistant Minister ferdinand Waititu among other leaders. “As Minister for Justice, I say that the independence of institutions must be respected and I am directing that Midiwo be arrested,” he said. He directed Tobiko to ensure that ODM chief Whip Jakoyo Midiwo is arrested and charged for misleading Kenyans.
Mr. Wamalwa reiterated the need and the importance to respect the independence of the country's institutions such as the DPP's office and the IEBC. He said that the country cannot move forward if leaders undermined such kind of institutions. He further said that leaders should not dupe the country at the risk of civil strife. The same sentiments were aired by former Budalangi Mp Raphael Wanjala who spoke earlier. On his part, Dujis MP Aden Duale, said Midiwo was peddling falsehoods and deserved to be arrested for the truth to be told. He was supported by Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu who cautioned leaders against uttering inflammatory remarks that could lead to violence. Barely a day ago, the DPP ordered for the arrest of the legislator after it was observed that he gave false information to the police as regards the alleged assassination plot. Midiwo however was quick to say that he does not fear being arrested and insisted he gave all the facts he had. Midiwo further challenged the police to make public his statement alongside those of DPM Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto among other people who recorded statements with the police. The DPP ordered for the arrest of the legislator after Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere informed him (Tobiko) that his officers were through with the investigations. Midiwo had alleged at a funeral in Bondo that mercenaries were in the country with clear directions to kill the PM with senior government officials being involved. At the funeral, Midiwo spoke in the presence of the PM Raila Odinga, Ministers James Orengo. Anyang Nyongo, Dalmas Otieno. At the same time, the Justice Minister said that he is committed towards uniting Kenyans and ensuring there is peace in the country noting that there can be no unity without peace.
He said the mission of G7 Alliance is to unite the country, reconcile the country and see where the problem is and thus as the minister in charge of National Cohesion and Justice called for support from Kenyans.
He said he believes Uhuru and Ruto are doing well for the nation and are the people that can hold the country together.
He acknowledged President Mwai Kibaki's move to appoint him as minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs and confirmed that he is capable to deliver to Kenyans.
On his part, the Eldoret North Mp and presidential aspirant on the URP ticket William Ruto praised president Kibaki's move to appoint Wamalwa to the cabinet saying that he has set standards to nominate people to positions basing on merit and not sycophancy.
A section of the crowd that turned out during the Justice Minister Eugene Wamalwa's homecoming party held at the Kitale Show Ground in Trans Nzoia County. Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta commended Wamalwa's appointment to the cabinet noting that he is capable of taking the task and G7 is ready to support him accomplish the mission. “The G7 team is committed to bringing together Kenyans and identifies the core causes of differences among them and looks for better solutions,” he said. He called on Wamalwa to fully support the team to bring the country in one unit. “Our country cannot move if leaders use tribalism to divide and create chaos among the people of the country,” he added. Uhuru also revisited the propaganda and lies that were propagated by Midiwo and Gitobu Imanyara saying that they were masterminds of such and should not create unnecessary panic among Kenyans. "I want to tell those who are in fear and panicking whenever we meet and bring about all sorts of lies to be ready for a real battle,' said Uhuru. He said that people should be responsible and accountable for whatever they say and whoever does any wrong should be arrested and be charged regardless of who he is. The DPM reiterated that their G7 team is sure of forming the next government. ICC
Minister for Information and Communication Samauel Poghisio said the solution to the ICC cases is to allow DPM Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto to vie for the presidency and create a level playground for all presidential aspirants. "There should be no move of some of the aspirants ploting to bar other aspirants from participating in the elections," said Poghisio.
Regional Development minister Fred Gumo, who also attended the party, said the ICC cases should be resolved before the country goes in for the next general elections noting that the leaders in this country are capable of ensuring possibility of the cases resolved.
“President and PM Raila Odinga should go to the ICC in The Hague to seek for the withdrawal of the cases from there so that there is harmony among leaders and all aspirants on a level ground,” Gumo said.
He pointed out that the two principals and other leaders related to the ICC cases should meet and formulate a way forward to the ICC cases. |
