More than 10,000 residents, schools within Kolanya location of Teso North District are set to benefit from the Sh 2 million Kolanya Community Water Project that was commissioned last weekend.

The project sponsored by the Salvation Army Church was lauded by the residents terming it God sent. The Territorial Commander Western region, Joash Malabi said, “This project is going to cater for the needs of over 10,000 residents residing in Kolanya and its environs.”

He also said that besides the Kolanya community, the project is supposed to supply water to four schools of Kolanya boys’ primary school, Kolanya girls boarding primary, Kolanya Girls Secondary and Kolanya Boys High.

Accompanied by his wife during the launch, Commissioner Florence Malabi said girls are now in better place to have water after it being scarce, affecting the students especially girls who have been walking long distances in search of water.

Kolanya Secondary Deputy Principal, Were Asang’ire thanked the sponsors saying it was a good gesture to have water which had proved elusive for long. He assured the sponsors to expect good results revealing that the students will now have ample time to focus in studies and emerge victorious.

“ I want to promise that my girls  will pull up their socks now that water is no more  hitch, having performed well last year without water, am optimistic that they will bring brilliant results this time round,” said Mr.Were.

Commissioner Malabi said it was a shame to have about 2,000 students missing lessons because of water scarcity, thus the need to start the project to help the student and the society.
