Nandi County Council has allocated Sh 5.5 million to facilitate the Nandi Agricultural Show that would be hosted before the end of this year.

The amount is inclusive of Sh2.5 million that were sourced from the ministry of agriculture last year. Council clerk Mr. Henry Loyolmoi said that the council had presented the proposal to the provincial budget committee seeking for its approval.

Loyolmoi said that the council had also allocated some other money for the renovation of the shattered perimeter of the showground.

He said, “Meanwhile as we wait for the approval of the proposal we shall start renovating the perimeter.”

The last time for the show to be held in Kapsabet was in 2009 and since then the council has failed to host the show because of inadequate funds.

Last year, expectations of the residents were thwarted by the council after they failed to allocate funds despite receiving Sh 2.5 million from the ministry of agriculture.

“Residents have been demanding that the show be held. It is embarrassing that since 2009 we have not been able to satisfy their needs,” Loyolmoi said.

Loyolmoi said that the council was still calling on well wishers and partners to step in and supplement the facilitation of the show.

“We shall fix the date of the show once the provincial budget committee approves our proposal. However, we still need more funds,” he said.

Loyolmoi unveiled that ASK was not the main donor of the event.

“ASK is not fully in charge of the funding. The council in association with other donors are the ones taking leading responsibility in the event,” he said.

Earlier, a section of farmers led by Jeremiah Kirwa protested demanding for the show.

They accused the council of “buying time” as they await county government to take over the show.

“We want to know why the council is keeping quiet over the matter even after receiving funds from the ministry,” he said.
