The hour of reckoning is nigh for politicians who have no character, grounding, personal depth. Those who have thrived on being elected by who they associate with at the National level or the tide of the National party’s electoral season but have no substance, no character, no leadership, no skills, no comprehension of the yearnings of the majority of the people of Western Kenya and North Rift are dead scared of what prospects they now face of being rendered politically redundant. It is pitiable that grown up, educated, well travelled men and women from Western Province and North Rift can after 48 years since independence have no courage to define themselves, concretize the agendas of the region and articulate them, push them, advance them without a big brother personality from outside the region and as their master, anchor, hope and salvation. Western Province and North Rift is tired off, ashamed of suffocating from political cowards, political prostitutes, politician without any grounding in the core developmental issues, agendas of the people of the region. The so called leaders who sabotage projects meant for the region and partake of corruption, bribery from those raping, plundering the resources of the region and national budgetary allocations directed to the region and meant to uplift the residents. It is given that any politician who has grounding of the deep yearnings of the people of the region will not be in a state of confusion as the country heads to the next general elections. And indeed such a politician’s political compass will be guiding him or her to the grand scheme of the aspirations of the people of the region. Those who have been true to advancing the interest of Western Province and North Rift ought not to be in panic mode as the political landscape of Kenya shifts and turns everyday, every week, every month as we head to the General Election. Those with grounding in region will be smiling as the tide for the region to take the reigns of the presidency of Kenya swirls in the regions favour. The tragedy of Western Province and North Rift is that too many of the political actors are job seekers or those seeking to retain their jobs (through re-election) and so that they continuously confuse and mistake their petty personal survival agendas of getting employed politically or retaining their current political jobs as synonymous with the interests of the region. They therefore hand on propositions including those that sell the region to other regions of Kenya for pitiable silver so as to earn being elected, or re-elected. They are prepared to be slaves of other politicians from without the region in the name of advancing their personal political survival at the expense of sacrificing and auctioning the interests of the region in exchange. They are mediocrity at its grotesque. They are a disgrace. The times we live in dictate that the electorate of Western Province and North Rift interrogate mercilessly all those who are flooding the political arena seeking for employment and re-employment and only pick out those who demonstrate capacity to lead, to sacrifice for the region and not for themselves. And yes, one cannot be able to lead the region if he or she has no grounding on the challenges that face the region. One cannot be able to be a leader of Western Province and North Rift if they do not believe in the region including its potential to bequeath on Kenya the 4th President of our Republic. And one cannot lead Western Kenya and North Rift if their eyes, ears, mouth and other senses are forever attuned to proclaiming that other men and women from outside Western Kenya and North Rift are better than those of the region in leadership. The time is now for the region to separate the wheat from the chaff, to isolate doers and talkers. To identify men and women with a grounding of Western Kenya and North Rift and who can confidently proudly, candidly, boldly articulate the agendas, issues, challenges of the region and provide tangible solutions that can deliver socio-economic transformation. The political comedians, prostitutes, hawkers, parrots, con-artists, cowards, appeasers must not be permitted to again this round, occupy any political office as that will spell doom and the death of the Dreams and Promises of all Kenyans enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010. The most honoured task of vetting all those who now parade themselves for election to public political office is squarely in the hands of the electorate. West fm prays that the electorate of the region will live upto its sacred civic duties bestowed upon it by the Constitution of Kenya 2010 to protect its sovereignty by electing leaders of integrity, with sound character and skills that make them upto the task of steering the region from its current state of under development. The electorate must resist the old habits of past general elections where they sold their votes to the highest bidder. The Constitution of Kenya 2010 will be rendered impotent and still born if the electorate succumb to being manipulated, bought by politicians as we approach the General Election. The challenge, the hard call is that it is for the electorate to scrutinize those who will be seeking political office and determine who gets elected and who does not. It is not those who seek to be elected to buy you as an elector to elect them. The future of the region lies squarely in who we elect as leaders to guide the region under the new Constitution. The challenge is on the generation of 18 to 35 years to usher in a new leadership that can provide leadership and solutions to their present unacceptable condition where they are maturing into old age without being optimally productively employed or self employed to realize their potential.
