The wreckage of a past road accident.

Mumias Traffic Police have planned to conduct vehicle crackdown next week few days after a young man was killed in a road accident at Eluche along the Mumias- Kakamega Road.

The area traffic officer Mr Joseph Siso accompanied by the area O.C.P.D George Seda said that most Passenger Service Vehicles -PSV owners have tampered with their safety belts and speed governors a fact that has contributed to the increased accidents since many occur due to reckless driving and over speeding.

Sosio noted that road safety is the responsibility of all Kenyans and urged them not to be quick to point accusing fingers to the government. He faulted passengers who board over loaded vehicles and sit on self made seats called ''bamba'' warning that they too risk being arrested.

Although the duo recommended the reduced number of motorists’ accidents in the region, they urged motorists to acquire licenses and also to ensure that they have helmets for themselves and for the one passenger they will be carrying.
