Members of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) held peaceful demonstrations in Mumias town to condemn rising cases of insecurity in the area. The faithfuls matched from Mumias town to St Paul’s ACK Shibale, where Reverend Benson Nandwa was murdered by unknown assailants on April 14 in his house. They condemned authorities for failure to pursue the killers, who have since been at large and decried that the police have not made any effort to arrest the suspects believed to be in connection with the incident. Bishop Beneah Salala of Mumias ACK dioceses led the faithful in the demonstration and later a memorial service for the deceased held at Shibale. The Bishop accused police officers for laxity on their job especially the District Criminal Investigation department, whom he accused of colluding with criminals to kill and rob off innocent citizens’ property and later help cover up. The church has demanded for the arrest and prosecution of the murderers and demanded that Government intervenes in the matter. However, Mumias OCPD Mr George Seda said the murder case was being handled by the Western Provincial police boss following a directive from the Attorney General’s office. “The enormity of the crime forced the matter to be handled by a higher office and we are waiting for instructions from above on the next move,” said Mr Seda. However, Seda explained that security personnel in the area were making progress in the fight against crime with the help of locals. |
