A 59 year old woman is recuperating at the Busia district hospital after severely being wounded by a thug at Lukonyi area, Busia district.

According to the victim Kamida Ajiambo, the attacker was armed with a sharp object suspected to be a panga which he used to hack her on the head, neck and hand leaving her with serious injuries as she was headed to her home after visiting her son.

“As I was approaching my homestead at around 9pm and a tall guy who was following me behind immediately grabbed me and started strangling me on the ground,” she said, adding that the attacker however injured her with the weapon on realizing that she had not died.

Speaking to West FM at the hospital, Ajiambo said that her effort to raise an alarm were fruitless as the area residents responded after the attacker had left from the scene of incident.

“I tried to raise an alarm by screaming though my voice was not audible enough to alert the neighbors,” said the victim.

In the same area, two brothers escaped death narrowly after being attacked by a four man gang who left them with injuries dashing away with their mobile phones at around 10pm.

Donald Wanjala who sustained injuries on the head said the attackers had taken advantage of police laxity to terrorize them during the night a move that has raised fear among the area residents.

He expressed fear that despite alerting the Busia police officers over the deteriorating security in the area, the officers have failed to execute their responsibility of offering security giving the criminals an opportunity to terrorize locals.

“We urge the government to intervene in effort to help us, as local residents. Why should we suffer yet persons charged with the responsibility of maintaining security area around?” asked Wanjala.
