A Community Based Youth Group Foundation in Malaba has raised concern over the increased cases of drug abuse at the border a factor they blame to insufficient laws at the border.

 The research carried out by GESAO shows that flexible laws at the Malaba border has contributed  rampant use of drugs by the youth  a factor that has made most of them quit  schools and indulge in the business .

 GESAO founder George Ogwe Samson revealed that Marijuana, Bang, Miraa and Alcohol are being sold at cheaper prices in Uganda making them available to the youth at the border. Ogwe   also confirmed that lack of proper laws at the border has enhanced easy transportation of those drugs from Uganda through Malaba to Mombasa and Nairobi respectively.

 “A roll of bang in Uganda sells at Sh15 Kenyan money which amounts at 500 Ugandan currencies making it cheap and available to people operating the business. The unmanned border paves a straight way of the illegal drugs to sell in Mombasa and Nairobi,’’ explained Ogwe.

 The mostly affected group is between the age of 18-40 in which most of them are using the drugs themselves and selling the illegal drugs at the border.
