Eleven year old girl rescued from a forced marriage in Uasin Gishu

POLICE in Lugari are holding a 25 year old man for allegedly eloping with an 11 year old girl from Vumilia village, Soy location in Uasin Gishu district and forcing her into marriage.

According to Seregea senior assistant chief Diana Owano who led the rescue operation is that the suspect Andrew Fred Simiyu eloped with the minor a standard five pupil at Vumilia Primary school and took refuge at his sister’s place at Namirembe village, Seregea sub-location Likuyani district where he was arrested Saturday morning.

The assistant chief said that she laid an ambush and managed to arrest the two in their hideout after being tipped off by members of the public.

The administrator revealed that the two love birds have been consummating their matrimony for a long time adding that the suspect has been handed over to Turbo police station for interrogation.

Surprisingly the girl’s parents are said to have consented to the marriage.

Police sources confirmed the arrest adding that the suspect was likely to be charged with defilement and abduction early next week.
