The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has issued a one week notice to the government to disburse Sh 16 billion arrears of free primary and secondary education failure to which the union will call on for the closure of schools countrywide.
Addressing the press in Nairobi, KNUT secretary General David Okuta revealed that schools nationally are under pressure from their suppliers who allegedly have not been paid since the closure of schools last year.
Okuta says that if the government fails to honor their request, the union will be forced to close the schools countrywide until the funds are released to schools.
This comes at the time when the minister for education called upon the government to disburse the funds.
