Residents of Butula constituency have been cautioned against the alarming rate of fake Non-Governmental organizations in the area.

According to the District Development Officer (DDO) Justus Korir, those operating the fake NGO's have gone an extra mile of extorting money from the inhabitants a move he said was against the law.

“We have NGO’s which have not registered with our offices to undertake their duties in this area,” he said.

Korir said those with intentions of operating NGO's should ensure they adhere to the legal procedures to avoid being on the wrong side of the law.

He urged leaders in the area to also help in the fight against the fake NGO's in a bid to ensure local residents are not affected.

“Local leaders should stand in the fore front in the fight against such organizations. We must also know what their intentions are in the constituency,”

Speaking at Bwaliro primary school, the DDO said they have launched investigations to ensure those involved in the illegal business are apprehended.

Meanwhile, the district registrar of persons Ms. Christine Obwaku has called on youth in the area to register for Identification cards.

She warned them against individuals demanding for money from them before they can register them.

“We are moving in various schools to register the youth. And we must remain vigilant against a group of individuals that is using our office to solicit money from the public,” said Obwaku.
