Kenyans have been cautioned against engaging in corrupt activities while seeking civil registration services.

Addressing a public baraza at Marakusi village of Lugari location, the District Registrar of Persons Mr. Enock Malala clarified that the government does not charge any fees for persons who have attained 18 years and are legible for National Identity Cards (ID) except for those who want replacements.

Mr. Malala pointed out that the government only charges Sh300 for those seeking replacement of lost identity cards.

He dismissed as allegations that the over aged persons who are yet to register for national IDs are supposed to part with between Sh2,000 and Sh5,000 and warned chiefs and their assistant chiefs against propagating the vice.

The official warned that disciplinary action will be taken against any officer in his department who will be found soliciting for funds from unsuspecting wananchi.

Mr. Malala was responding to claims from members of the public that some officials from his department were charging new applicants between Sh150 and Sh200 as registration fees for ID.
