"We have directed all principals in Trans Nzoia especially those for day schools to tell the students not to come back to school Friday when they go home today until the government releases the money for free secondary education to the schools accounts," Lusweti said via his mobile phone on his way to attend a workshop in Eldoret. He added that principals of boarding schools shall send the children home starting Friday until the day the funds shall be available. The secretary thus, called upon the parents to take the initiative of compelling the government to release the funds to the schools as a matter of priority because it is its mandate to avail the funds. Lusweti pointed out that the principals had been for a long time piling pressure on the union to advice on how they can close schools early due to the delay or failure in the government to release the money and therefore, the principals have had a sigh of relief on the union's move. He said the principals had been having a hell of their time to ensure the schools continue running without the programmed or rather budgeted funds from the government. However, he pointed out that the union has its officers at the grass roots level to monitor and ensure that no school defies the directive for it to have the desired impact on the government. |
